Melissa was born in Eugene, Oregon and raised in Klamath County, Oregon. When she was a child, Melissa’s family had a small farm where she learned the value of working with animals while helping to raise chickens, rabbits, milking goats and a milking cow. While in high school from 1991 to 1996, Melissa was a structural/wildland fire fighter and EMT, and she later earned an AA in Agriculture Science from Klamath Community College. Melissa graduated in 2013, which was one of the greatest accomplishments of her life. In 2010 while working on her degree, Melissa met and married her biggest supporter and best friend, Ed. Together Ed and Melissa have 2 beautiful and talented daughters. In 2014 Melissa headed back into the work force to work for Klamath County in a teen girls’ lockdown facility. That job gave her the positive push into the work she does now as a mentor for Dragonfly Transitions.
One of Melissa’s passions is helping people and paying it forward, and this type of work is rewarding for her. Melissa also likes to meet new people, and in this job field she is always finding new people. She is an outdoorsy person and loves to fish, hunt and go camping. Gardening and preserving food is another love of Melissa’s. She also has a lifelong passion for working with and being near horses. Her long to term goal is to learn from her current job and use her education to continue to be a positive mentor to youth and others in the community.
