Born in Trumansburg, New York, Ciaran moved to Eugene, OR when he was three years old and grew up surrounded by the green of the West Coast where he fully embraced the lush and vibrant surroundings. To this day, he spends his time rock climbing, mountain biking, backpacking, scuba diving, trail running, split boarding, reading and writing, cooking, painting and sketching, photography – you get the picture!
Prior to joining the Dragonfly team, Ciaran primarily worked in domestic and international adventure trip programming and leadership. He worked for three years with Southern Oregon University’s Outdoor Program as a trip guide and program mentor. In that position, Ciaran was able to lead numerous rock climbing and backpacking adventure expeditions while attending the school’s Outdoor Adventure Leadership undergraduate degree program. While in school, he focused on international programming skills, adventure guiding skills and minored in the Spanish. For Ciaran’s capstone project, he spent three months in Ecuador working with a sustainable community in developing an outdoor program for their young people. Upon graduation, Ciaran was introduced to the world of wilderness and adventure therapy by some of his peers as well as professional interactions with members of a program in Bend, OR.
Having experienced the positive effects nature has on a sustainable lifestyle, Ciaran was drawn to Dragonfly’s mission and the parallels it drew to his professional goals and personal beliefs. Ciaran’s goal is to work with individuals at Dragonfly to adapt the skills and benefits encountered in the outdoors into their transitional work.
