Cassandra was born and raised in Idaho where interaction with the outdoors largely informed her sense of self and formed a life-long relationship with the natural environment. Her early work in human services consisted of working with adolescents and their parents as a sexual health educator creating safe spaces to develop language and receptivity for having difficult conversations. She continued work in the public health and community education in Hawai’i conducting research and programmatic oversight of a statewide harm reduction program. While working with individuals struggling with chronic and acute addiction, homelessness, and health issues, she realized her passion for blending health education, social services, and therapeutic support. This fervor for facilitating difficult conversations lead her to pursue a dual masters program in Clinical Social Work and Education in Human Sexuality from Widener University in Chester, PA.
Cassandra’s graduate training focused on sexual positivity and affirmative therapy for those who identify as LGBTQI and/or gender non-conforming. Following her graduate studies, she worked extensively with individuals struggling with problematic sexual behaviors where she became acutely aware of the underlying trauma fueling these behavior patterns. Prior to working at Dragonfly, Cassandra worked as a highly sought-after therapist at a residential treatment facility in Arizona serving adolescent females and their families.
As a licensed Clinical Social Worker, Cassandra has completed specialized training and certification in trauma informed approaches such as Somatic Experiencing, Post Induction Therapy, and EEG Neurofeedback. She has advanced training in EMDR, Tremor Release Exercises, and Sex Addiction Therapy. Cassandra’s therapeutic style is grounded in research with interventions that are guided by neurobiology, attachment theory, and trauma informed care. She is excited to bring her experience and training to Dragonfly where her conviction and lived experience of the power of healing through relationship, empowerment, and outdoor adventure are mirrored in the philosophy of our organization.
In her life outside of work, Cassandra spends her time practicing yoga and meditation, hiking, reading, having quality time with her pup and loved ones, and looking for opportunities for random acts of silliness and play.
